Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Way back in September I went to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I purchased the tickets the day of the concert and I was lucky to get seats only 10 feet from the stage. The YYYs were AWESOME! Their stage presence, costumes and set designs were inspiring. This entry is a bit late, but I had to share these photos.

On September 10, 2009, the eve of New York Fashion Week, the entire international fashion community will come together for one of the biggest events of the year, Fashion’s Night Out. In collaboration with Mayor Bloomberg, and international editions of Vogue, fashion icons Anna Wintour, editor in chief of U.S. Vogue, and Diane von Furstenberg, designer and president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, have put together this ingenious event to counteract the current economic recession, and bring the fashion industry back to life.

Throughout 13 countries, including the United States, Italy, France, Greece, Brazil, Spain, India, and the United Kingdom, participating designers and retailers from around the world will remain open until at least 11 pm, offering all sorts of entertainment, such as raffles, live DJs, food, cocktails, celebrity appearances, makeovers, fashion shows, etc., to consumers, as a way to promote sales through quality and experience, rather than price.

For instance, for those Chanel addicts out there, head down to Chanel’s East 57^th Street location where Chanel is offering the unbelieveable opportunity to create your own customized Chanel handbag. From the lining to the hardware, you choose everything! If this doesn’t tempt you to join in on the festivities, then I don’t know what will!

In addition, a citywide clothing drive will take place, where people can donate new/used clothing to be given to the NYC Aids Fund, which will then be distributed to AIDS-related charities throughout New York City’s five boroughs. So not only will you be able to experience this fun, rare occurence, but you are also given the chance to help out a good cause. Why miss out?

A Floating World

Right now a fascinating experiment is docked in New York – the Waterpod Project. The Waterpod is basically a mobile, self-sufficient floating pod. It is designed to be an alternative living model in response to changing environmental conditions. The Waterpod will be docked in Brooklyn Bridge Park until August 17th. Try to check it out! Friday was the last day for two of our interns. Stephanie went back to Paris and Nicole back to Boston. It was sad to see them go.

A Day at InStyle

We were invited to set up shop at InStyle for a day last week. Fashionistas from the whole Time and Life building stopped by for some retail therapy.

Security was tight at the Time and Life building. Our garment trunks were too big for their X-ray machine so they brought out the DOGS.

We got lunch from the building food court.

Nicole gave our interns a tour of THE CLOSET, similar to the one in Devil Wears Prada. Unfortunately no pictures were allowed.
